Lions are volunteer members of individual clubs
grouped under an international organization, Lions Clubs
International. They enjoy
fellowship, develop their leadership capabilities, and dedicate part of their free time to help those in
need all over the world, while making their individual communities a better place in which to
live.
The Lions are famous for their efforts in the promotion and restoration of vision. They do visual
screening, test for glaucoma
raise money to support eye research, provide eyeglasses to
those in need, sponsor eye care for needy patients, and provide information to the public
about vision or eye disease, Lions are constantly striving to improve eye health in their
communities.
In Multiple District 35 (Florida and the Grand Bahamas Island) Lions sponsor thousands of projects to help those in need within their own
individual communities.
In the Fort Lauderdale community, our club provides numerous eye exams,
eyeglasses,
hearing exams and hearing aids at no cost to the needy. We participate with the City of Fort
Lauderdale music fests, working vendor booths for raising funds. We have supplied food
baskets during the holidays, and holiday parties for HIV/AIDS children as well as
underprivileged children. We are also supporters of the Lighthouse
of Broward County
and have several drop off
points for the recycling of eyeglasses and hearing aids.
We are a small group, but all have BIG hearts!!
Each service we offer, a pair of glasses, a hearing aid, represents a human being - a child
squinting hopelessly in a classroom, a child or a parent that cannot hear the other, a skilled worker who desperately needs a pair of simple
lenses to keep a job, a grandparent yearning for the dignity of an independent lifestyle. What we
need are two things: money, of course, and people who want to help.
As a multiple district, Lions support seven major projects located within the State of Florida. All seven projects are important and each designed
to help a different segment of the needy, blind
and handicapped population.
